Upside Down Warning Sign on SBS Bus

by jamminglady @ 25. Aug 2007 - 23:10:43

Recently there have been many news with our SBS buses. News of bus on fire and bus knocking people down. Those were more serious matters.

While taking the bus today, I saw the following warning sign hanged upside down. The signboard was not a permanent fixture but a slot in and out advertisement metal plate.

Bus Sign Upside Down

On the leftmost side, the warning words were displayed upside down too. It's so obvious that it is upside down unless.. they seriously didn't understand the language. But how can they not know?

With such a long signboard, it couldn't have been the commuters on the bus playing pranks. If it's the bus driver, have they dropped in their level of carefulness in handling work? No wonder accidents happen.

Yummy Vegetarian Asian Style - New Green Pasture Cafe

by jamminglady @ 25. Aug 2007 - 23:01:28

Recently I went to meet up a few of my friends in this vegetarian cafe. Initially I thought I need to walk quite far, I thought of giving up the trip there. Coincidentally I need to visit a nearby office for eye checkup, so I just make a trip there. I thought this would be the usual tzu cha vegetarian food that I have eaten, nothing too fantastic. In the end, it turned out to be totally different from what you have in mind about vegetarian food!

This is made mainly with fresh vegetables and organic sauces, less of those artificial meat.

This is totally asian style. With the variety of vegetarian made japanese, korean and chinese dishes, it is indeed an eye opener. You might think that it's tasteless, you are wrong! Food tastes good and rich, just that it's done without meat.

I just realised that it has been advertised on Channel 8 in May 2007.

New Green Pasture Cafe(Organic food)
190 Middle Rd, Fortune Centre, #04-22
Tel: 63368755

We didn't know what to order, the lady boss ordered for us. I supposed it's the best of the best!

Here are some pictures of their food:

If you have tasted herbal beef soup and herbal bak kut teh, then this won't disappoint you!
Herbal Soup

There's soba in this.
Cold Salad Soba

I don't know if the sauce made a difference or it was fresh fruits. They used honey pineapples which gave a very special fragrance. It include apples, cucumber, mangos and a few other ingredients. I bought the rojak sauce they made, bottled for me from their huge pot. She told me the secret of a few other ingredients too. I shall try it! :)
Fruit Rojak

You may name it sushi but according to the name, it's just seaweed roll. Not as great though, but healthier :P

I don't know what's the name of this dish but it seriously has a special taste. I guess it's their organic sourish plum sauce with wheat bread. I didn't know simple sandwich like this could taste so good.
Sandwich?

There is one more dish called the Korean Stone Pot XXXX something like that. Hahaha. Looks good too but I forgot to take the picture down.

I am craving for their food already. :p

Self Made Dinner 1 - Fried Kailan with Mushroom and Hot and Sour Soup

by jamminglady @ 25. Aug 2007 - 22:36:08

I saw this hot and sour soup Campbells soup in the supermarket so I decided to give it a try. With a packet of kailan, I've decided to make this 2 my dinner with the addition of some mushroom.

I stir fried the kailan with garlic, abalone sauce and some usual cooking ingredients. Tada, it actually tasted quite good!!! :D

The hot and sour sichuan soup tasted good too. Although it's not my recipe, the soup is rich with vegetable ingredients. Cool!

People working in Singapore Town

by jamminglady @ 16. Aug 2007 - 22:50:36

Recently I've been hanging around the central business district of Singapore. I felt a difference between the places I used to work.

I used to work in areas which are in the west of Singapore, in the east of Singapore or at the outskirts of the central business district. I thought my ideas of office dressing is okay. My thoughts about how other people dress or behave during office hours is at most that way only. The usual shirt and pants for man and woman or the slightly more casual form. At the most, you have a tie. It's not like I have never seen professionals, right? Maybe one or two like this in our working area doesn't leave you with any impressions. With everybody wearing smart, your heart definitely feels if you are not like them.

Well, after hanging around there during office hours in the town, I get a different feeling. Even though those are wearing just the usual shirts and pants look different and carry a different feel. The business or professional feel. Clothes are chosen and worn very smartly on them. If there are accessories, simple dressing still make you look professional. Somehow, the dressing motto is "Look PROFESSIONAL else you are fired!".

At the medical centre, doctors wear smartly and the assistants wear clothes as if they are going shopping. The guy shirts are not the plain colored ones.. it's in professional stripes, white colllar going with patterned shirts or added on with a tie. Girls are more flexible, lots of varieties. I noticed that even aunties wear a blazer. With all these people walking around, the whole atmosphere just feel like a fast running engine. Business and work is in the air.

First time ordering lobster dish

by jamminglady @ 01. Aug 2007 - 00:56:15

It's a nice sunday so I thought I can bring my dad to try this tasty paper wrapped chicken. I told him that it's very good. He didn't seem too tempted. In the end, he wanted to try the seafood restaurant that replaced "No Signboard Seafood Restaurant" at Pasir Panjang. Now I think back, I forgot that he doesn't like chicken dishes except for chicken rice. No wonder I didn't get to eat my favourite chicken!

So we parked and saw the restaurant from outside. It looked empty, only 1 table full of people. I thought it must be empty for a reason. In contrast to this, there is a newspaper cutting and it seemed famous. My dad insisted on walking in. There were more newspaper cuttings inside showing that this restaurant is on the papers. The emptiness really makes me wonder.

Well, dad suddenly thought about ordering a lobster which really took us by surprise. Okay, so we asked about the price and we ordered. It's about $65 without tax. It looks like this...

Lobster Salad

The photo is a little blurry. I always had the impression that lobster salads only have teeny weeny portions of lobster meat. This one proved me wrong!!! Big chunks of fresh lobster meat on top of frozen melons and unfrozen orange. Lots of mayo sauce on top. I'm not sure what's in the mayo sauce. The whole thing tasted goooooood. The frozen melons were good too.. icy on the inside. The dish ordered comes with 2 other side dishes, they were good too. This dish really impressed me about this restaurant. Their pork ribs were not that good though. The other dish we ordered was the vegetables with scallops. It's good.

I've just found out on the net that it's the same family business with "No Signboard Seafood Restaurant", this one being the original business.

Too Large a Brew

by jamminglady @ 01. Aug 2007 - 00:37:38

Well, I wanted to order a cup of coffee to share with my dad. So I thought a small cup will be too small, I went for a large daily brew at the coffee bean. To my horror, the cup was double the size! No more large order of coffee next time!

Look at the number of sugar packets I've used, More than 6!
