Usually I won't even think about buying bedsheets. My mum usually does the job of doing that for all our beds. However, those few days I was feeling so hot on the bed and the bedsheets felt rough. I began to habour the thought that the bedsheets are bad. I need new ones.
The next day morning, I went to the Takashimaya department store. They always have this huge section specially for bedsheets. I was walking around trying to find the right type of materials for bedsheets that won't give me the warm and rough feeling on it. I was surprised to find exceptionally many helpers attending to the bedsheet section. To compare the numbers with the other sections, it's about 10:1 ratio. Perhaps, the bedsheet cost a lot and they could get commissions?
I walked around to shop for them and finally understood the few types of cotton from the sales assistants. The various types include egyptian cotton, egyptian cotton jacquered, cotton sateen and combed cotton. Jacquered means having faint designs embedded. Cotton sateen feels like the normal silky ones. I was wondering what this new term "Com-bed" meant. It is actually "Comb-ed" not "Com-bed". Haha. Anyway, I finally selected egyptian cotton which was said to be used in hotels. Hotels usually go for white and good hotels go for high thread counts so that it's super smooth. Well, the higher the thread count, the higher the price. There were discounted ones on egyptian cotton with a lower thread count. So I've decided to buy one for a try first. The pillow casing and the bolster casing were the original priced, they cost 2x of the discounted bedsheets.
After finishing with my items, I need to head to the cashier. I thought that the sales assistants need to keep track of who attended to my shopping so that they could get commission. No need!!! They were there just to help the customers only. Hmmmmm.. why aren't they there in other sections? I'm still puzzled. Were the bedsheet section more prestigious? Wierd!
