Whisky Education

by jamminglady @ 06. Mar 2007 - 15:25:57

On one of the Chinese New Year days, I had the chance to have a sip to one of the scotch whisky, Glenmorangie. So far, I have only tried Chivas Regal. This scotch whisky made me change the entire impression of whisky.

Today, I had some time to read up a little on scotch whisky on wikipedia. Scotch whisky, obviously is whisky made in Scotland. It has four different categories namely single malt, vatted malt (also called "pure malt"), blended, and single grain. Of the categories I mentioned, Chivas Regal is considered a blended whisky and Glenmorangie is a single malt whisky. To be called Scotch whisky, the spirit must conform to the standards of the whisky order which is more like a standard age or method of distilling. More about scotch whisky can be found here: Scotch Whisky

Single Malt Whisky - Glenfiddich and Glenmorangie Glenmorangie Bottle

This bottle is the one that I tasted. A distiller of single malt Scotch whisky. It is the best-selling single malt in the UK market, and has been best-selling single malt in Scotland for over 47 years - "Scotland's Favourite Malt". The family have sold this whisky to Moet Hennessy in 2004.

The usual blended whisky gives a very strong burning sensation with a rough taste in the mouth and it is harder to drink. Taste of this whisky is very much smoother to the throat. You will enjoy the drink even without the rocks. I think it's worth keeping such a whisky at home and take it out for a drink while watching a good movie.

Try it!
